Hanna Birna to re­sign as Min­is­ter of the In­te­rior

Hanna Birna Kristjáns­dót­tir, the Min­is­ter of the In­te­rior,  an­nounced her res­ig­na­tion today. She will step down de­spite sup­port from the In­de­pen­dence Party to re­main a min­is­ter.

Last week, her former assistant, Gísli Freyr Valdórsson, re­ceived eight months sus­pended sen­tence for leak­ing a doc­u­ment to the press last year, con­tain­ing con­fi­den­tial in­for­ma­tion about Nigerian asylum seeker Tony Omos.
