Peace activist runs for president for the third time

Businessman and peace activist Astthor Magnusson has announced that he will run for President of Iceland in the upcoming elections this summer. Magnusson is the leader of Peace 2000, a non profit organization he founded in 1995.

This is the third time he runs for president. He ran unsuccessfully in 1996 and 2004 and had made plans to run in 2008 but decide not to. In 1996 he got 2,7% of the votes and 1.9% in 2004. He also ran unsuccessfully for the Constituent assembly of Iceland in 2010.

The incumbent president, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, has not stated if he will seek a fifth term.
