Gréta Salóme and Jónsi will represent Iceland in ESC

Gréta Salóme and Jónsi will represent Iceland in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Baku next May. They won the Icelandic national final Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins tonight, with the song Mundu eftir mér, written by Gréta Salóme.

This is Gréta Salóme’s first time representing Iceland in Eurovision. Jónsi participated on behalf of Iceland in 2004 with the song Heaven.

Performing on the big stage in Harpa tonight with them were Pétur Örn, Gísli Magni, Guðrún Árný and Alma Rut.

Tonight’s final was held in the new Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, opened in 2011. The final was presented by TV personality Brynja Þorgeirsdóttir and 1997 Icelandic representative Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson.
