Iceland awarded the ‘Best Adventure Travel Destination’ at the Sunday Times Travel Magazine Awards 2011
The readers of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine have named Iceland as the ‘Best Adventure Travel Destination’. The awards were announced at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in Kings Cross on November 28th.
In particular, Iceland was chosen for its unique lunar-like landscapes and for the wide range of activities people can enjoy in Iceland year round. Iceland edged out Switzerland and Norway for the top position.
“This is a great end to a successful year for Iceland and we look forward to welcoming more Sunday Times Travel Magazine readers to our country in 2012,” said Sigga Gróa a spokesperson for the Icelandic Tourist Board.
Iceland has recently been awarded ‘Best in Travel’ at the annual Lonely Planet ‘Reader’s Choice Awards,’ as well as being included in National Geographic Traveler’s pick of the ‘Best of the World 2012’.
